Just returned from LA. Went originally because my grandmother was ill in the hospital and I needed to give my mother a reprieve. After I was there only 5 days, my grandmother went on to meet my grandfather. Although it was a sad time for us, it was good for her. She has been ready for a while now.

Anyway, I thought I would have a lot accomplished by now , but instead I kept starting on a project, and ripping it out. I kept messing up, not able to concentrate. I did go to a LYS and got some yarn for clapotis. I can't wait to get that started.

Just an update on my wips... I am making a hoodie for dd, trying to edit a few patterns together to come up with something I like. Can't add pics right now because of a blogger problem. I am also working on a pair of socks for my niece, those are coming along a little slower. Will post pics as soon as I can.

What I am hoping to start soon is Fetching, clapotis, and halfdome. There are some other things I want to get on the needles too, but this is enough for now. I need to go get some new yarn...will post later.

Schools in Session

Yeah, we can get back to a normal routine. And, I will have time for blogging again. This summer has been great fun with the exception of the kidney stone incident. We did have to cancel our vacation :( But, we had a good time doing other things. I am so ready to get back to knitting more. I tried to keep up with it this summer, but knitting at Splashtown in 100* weather was just icky...
Well here is the photo from the first day of school. My DS, who is going into 5th grade, woke up at 5:30 this am. He just couldn't wait to get back to school. Yes, I guess he is a nerd, but I love him to pieces. My DD took a lot of care to finding the perfect outfit. She found a handkerchief skirt and top. My little fashion bug.

In other news, we have recently had a friend's son who passed away unexpectedly. The reason I am telling you this is to let you know what I found to send in lieu of flowers. The store is called Edible Arrangements. (they deliver)

I will soon be posting more knitting stuff now that I have some time to enjoy this art once again.

UGH! Another Kidney Stone.

Yes, I've been plagued with kidney stones. I went to the Dr. last week to find out I have yet another. Only this one isn't going anywhere. It's just playing ping pong in my kidney. So, I feel like I have been in a fight that I didn't get any shots in, I was on the receiving end and took shots to my left kidney. We will just wait and see what is going to happen until my next appt. on Mon. What a long week.

Well, since I've not been feeling to good, I've taught my DD and 2 of her friends to knit. They are 7 and 9, and they are doing great. Still a little uncoordinated and loose, but they are having a blast making a dishcloth. Will post picks of the knitsters soon. DS who is 10.5 refuses to learn. It's too girlie, he just wants everyone to make him stuff.

Where has the time gone. Just 9 short years ago I had a beautiful little baby girl. Now she is an oppinionated little girl. Who decided to teach these babies to talk? Who decided they should get any bigger? Where has my shy little girl gone?
Well, she is trying hard to turn into a teenager. Gone are the frilly little dresses, and pretty little bows. The cute little seersucker outfits, and pigtails. No, now she can think for herself. And boy does she have an opinion on what's fashionable. I don't even remember picking out my own clothes until high school. My how time changes. Well here she is with her birthday pancakes! And the other is her and her best bud!

Sorry i haven't posted in a month. It's been a little bit crazy around here. The summer is just flying by. Summer swim season is now over. The kiddos did wonderfully, both improving times consistently. My dd relay teams placed at just about every meet. My brother came in from over seas on furlow for a week, so we spent some time in Louisiana visiting. We have gone to Splashtown at least once a week, and enjoying camps, and VBS. I am finally getting a break.

On to knitting news... I am still working on my socks, started a pair of socks for my niece, and made one of a pair of mittens for my DD. The mittens are too big for her. I tried to size down the pattern but it didn't work to well. She says she will wear them anyway cause one day they'll fit...she's so sweet. Will have to post pics later as my camera has died. I need a new battery and haven't made it to Wally world yet.

My DH found this great little coffee shop called Bad Ass Coffee. I just love the name. It's down town, and with the kids home for summer I haven't made it there yet. Well here's to another hot Texas day.

Starting socks for summer of socks!

Here is my first pair of socks for me. Why for me you may ask, I'm ready for something for me. Yes, I am being selfish. But I have to go to the pool every morning for the kids for at least 2 hours, see kids movies at the theater, and eat kid friendly food. So, it's time for something for me. And hey, it's only a pair of socks.

Yeah, we were at chick-fil-a, eating kid food, playing kid games. I sent them all to the play area and started knitting. Oh, lovely peace!

A new hat

This is the hat that I made for sonny boy. It is made from Lion Brand's Kool Wool, and he loves it. He wore it yesterday. I'm waiting for him to have a heat stroke or something. It is only 94* here.

Still haven't started on any socks for me. I'm thinking about making some Jaywalkers. Not real sure. I am going to need to start pretty soon though. My hubby wants a new sweater for the winter, and I want some socks first.

Follow up to raccoon. Another rabid bat was found here. See news story. And still, animal control only works bankers hours. I just don't understand this...

Well, here it is a lovely Sunday afternoon, and my hubby opens the back door and sees this...
What is a raccoon doing on our fence at 2pm and why won't he run away? What do you do about this you may ask. Well I called animal control first only to learn that they keep bankers hours. I wonder if all the animals are aware of this. I then called the police station. I was told that no one would come out unless the animal bit a human, and it broke the skin. Hmm, and only 2 weeks after a local high school boy died from rabies.(if you want to view article you have to sign in because it has been archived) Yes, I was scared. I wouldn't even let the dog go out to potty. My hubby got this pic.
My daughter fell in love with the cute little thing. She even named him Rocky. The men of the Cul de Sac had to get rid of him. We just have too many kids, especially little girls who love cute little animals. I will spare you the details but my daughter thinks he ran in to the woods near our house, and that's the story I'm sticking to. So I wonder what excitement we will have tomorrow...

Summer of Socks

I've joined the Summer of Socks KAL. It looks like it will be really fun. And heh, I'll get some great socks done before fall :) I'm off to the local yarn store to stock up on my sock yarn. And I need to find some great patterns. Any suggestions?

Warming Grace Project

Here are the squares that I whipped up for the
Warming Grace project. The first is a heart that I made up as I went along, the second is basket weave, and the third is a modified roman stripe. They will be mailed out tomorrow. I am so excited to be able to help with this project.

On to other news... Today was the last day of school for the kiddos, and they both finished the year with straight A's. I am so proud of them. We are all ready for a little R & R. Now if my DH would only take some time off for vacation. I think that will be in August.

Well I'm off to clean out kids closets...

First Pair of Socks, cont.

Well here is the pic of my first pair of socks. My DD just loves them. She could not wait to put them on this morning. They ar simple, yes, but my next pair will be a little more difficult. I am trying a lace pattern. Not a very complicated one though. I am also starting on a hat, Ben's Hat, for DS. He wants it in black and red. And yes, I will have to edit the size for a 10 year old head.

Only 2.5 days left of school. I am so excited. We can sleep in for a few days, then back to getting up early for swim practice. Oh well, the joys of motherhood.

Finished First Pair of Socks

Well I finally finished my first pair of socks. They are for DD since she has the smallest feet. Maybe for crazy sock day at school... She is so excited to wear them. She has been asking at least twice a day if I've finished the second one. Will post pics later. I think I will start on socks for me. A little more difficult. We shall see.

First Swim Meet

Well today was the kids first swim meet. So it was a really long day. At the pool at 6:40am. Finished at 2pm. They all did well. The pic is of all the kids saying "Hi" to their long lost friends who moved to Oregon. We really miss you Jen, Stacy and Brian.

All the kids improved their times. Some who came close to All Star times. Yeah!!!

Well we are now off to the Astros game.

Nothing New

Not much new today. I'm about halfway finished with DD second sock. Tried a new coffee my sister in law ordered from a school function. It was a pecan roasted coffee, and boy was it good.
We have the kids 1st official swim meet tomorrow. They are really excited.

With the end of the school year coming to a close, they are already preparing for next years extra curricular activities. My son is in a television club called Falcons Go Live. They do all of the morning announcements, etc. on closed circuit TV. He loves being on tv. My daughter is on the student council. They are both still in grade school. Wow they do things early now...

First Sock

Yeah for me! I finished my first sock ever. Here is the pic. It's only one so now my DD can't wait for me to finish the other so she can wear them. So I better go get started. And it really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Namaste Purse

This is what I got for Mother's Day. My very own Namaste Knitting Purse. I love it. As you can see, I can put my purse things (wallet, lipstick, junk) on one side and my knitting on the other. Right now it has a scarf I'm working on, socks in progress, and 2 small skiens of extra sock yarn. I am in heaven!!!

New to socks

I have just started to try my hand at socks. I have never knit in the round so it is kind of fun learning. Here are the pics so far... The yarn is Bernat sox yarn that I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I thought that $1 wasn't too bad especially if it had to be ripped out and started over alot. So far it's only been once. I took the pattern from the label
girls ruffle socks. Then I modified it without the ruffle. I will probable try it with the ruffle in a prettier yarn.

Yes, I know, my DD is getting everything. But on my to do list is socks for DS and me, sweater for DS, DH and me, and a hat for DS. So I have a lot of work to do.

Simple Kids Tank

got from isis. My DD loves the tank.
